Daddy Daughter Dance

For the past 6 years, Lawson and her Daddy have had a special Valentine's date.

And just when I think she can't get any cuter...

she does!

This year's dress might be my fav. Really fun! Check out that smile! Love the snaggle tooth look!
And yes, that's a picture of her daddy on her neclace! Sweet!

She found this store last year....that sells this brand of little girls high heel shoes. Like 1 inch heels....and I like the traditional look of the Mary Jane front. Win win!

This year... I asked her how she wanted me to fix her hair. She said "down and straight"...which is no suprise. She always want to wear it down and straight....and she wishes is were dark brown.

She rode to the dance with two of her girlfriends...Celia and Aida. From the pics Rob snapped...it looks like they were 3 peas in a pod!

She has really gotten into dancing. She spends most afternoons after school dancing to Victoria Justice music. And she has really picked up some new moves! I love to watch her! Talk about makin your heart happy.

Santa put tickets to a Mavs game in all of our stockings for Christmas and today was game day for us! I put all of our t-shirts up on the mantel this morning before everyone woke up...thought it would be a fun way to suprise the kids that we were going to the game tonight!

Not much more fun than driving into down town and seeing all the buildings and lights. Lawson and Hudson get really into it! So cute!I won't lie...I was SO excited to see the championship banner with my OWN eyes! I fell in love with the Mavs in 2001 and have watched most every game since. Winning the championship last year was so awesome...and I needed to see that banner!

The Mavs lost to the Pacers 98-87. But, it evidently didn't spoil it for the kids....because Lawson asked the next morning...."Did the Mavs win last night?"

Yes! Today was THIS gorgeous!

I actually bought the kids ice cream from the ice cream man! For the first time! Seriously! One can buy a whole gallon of ice cream for what it costs to buy one treat from the ice cream man! And I am my mommas daughter...and that math just doesn't work for my budget! BUT...today's weather just screamed "We want ice cream!" and it is so much more festive from the ice cream man! So, when he came down the street...these two got LUCKY!

I think going to the Fossil Ridge Basketball game last night and watching the"big boys" play ball really inspired Hudson today. He was too funny on defense....really trying to stay with his man AND know what was going on with the game at the same time! He got one steal today (and I managed to capture it on video!) and one rebound. He shot twice.

I mentioned in an earlier post that Lawson was Student of the Month for the quaility of caring in December. We attended her school tonight and saw her receive her Student of the Month ribbon. REALLY proud of you, Lawson! Way to go! May you always care for others.Hudson played game 2 of the season this week! And he has a cute new haircut!

He got one steal. And I managed to catch it in this pic. The coach is telling him to pass it to our guard, Reese.

The kids and Rob were out of school today for MLK day...so I thought it only right that I take off and join them! Hudson has been talking about wanting to go swimming...and that sparked this idea. We spent 3 hours swimming this afternoon! Fun unexpected stuff in January!

The kids played together really well and just had a blast!

It almost felt like a mini stay-cay!

Jayhawks First Game of the Season

Hudson's first game of the season was today! We went out yesterday to buy him some basketball shoes...and came home with 3 pairs because there were several factors to be considerd and we couldn't decide. So, this morning...he had to make a tough decision. Nike's advertising campaign is effective with even 5 year olds...because he picked the Nike shoe... he already recognizes that there is something special about that "swoosh"!

The team decided to get there names printed on the back. Each kid got to pick what they wanted printed on their jersey. EVERY kid but Hudson has there first name or a nickname on their jersey. Hudson said he wanted his last name on his jersey...because that's how they do it in the NBA.

There is a lot more strategy to their game this year...it's really fun to watch!

The players have to tuck their shirts in. Robbie had losely tucked in Hudson's so that it looked "cool". During the pledge, we noticed Hudson re-tucking in his shirt...just as tight as he could! Awesome!

This little girl was just casually walking around the floor...and Hudson was "guarding" her with all he had. She had the funniest look on her face...like she had no idea what he was doing or why he was doing it!

Hudson's first shot! He missed it. Last year he played on a 6 ft goal. This year the goal is 8 ft and the ball is larger (and heavier) so he is really having to work to make a basket.

He ended up taking 3 shots, but not points. He had 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Way to go Hudson!

Meanwhile, Lawson found yet another cool thing to do with the iPad. Use the chalkboard app to keep score! Quite an upgrade from the little dry erase board and markers she carried to every game last year!

My 37th

I left for work this morning at 6:30 am. It's still dark then. But, just as I was backing into the street...I caught a glimpse of these Birthday signs in my yard! Happy Birthday to me! What a fab start to my 37! My kiddos were SO sweet to make my day great!

We went out to dinner at BJs. One of my fav places. We had a chocolate chip pazookie for dessert. I don't know that makes this warm cookie with ice cream better than any others....but it is all out fabulous!

Then home for some presents! They got me a tiarra...which I loved. I wish I had gotten it this morning....I would have worn it ALL day...benefit of working at a daycare! Ha! Hudson got me a candle. And Lawson got me bath loofas in a rainbow of colors. She also gave me a bag of twizzlers (one of my favs) that she bought when she was at the store with Rob last summer and has been hiding in one of his dresser drawers until my B-day! Really? How sweet are you Lawson?! And they earch picked me out a balloon.

And I even got a trumpet serenade while I opened gifts. You just never know what to expect around here!

Winter Basketball

Hudson is going to play basketball with the YMCA again. Although he loves ALL sports, basketball does seem to be his favorite sport to play. This year is going to challenge him. He moved up to an older age bracket and will be using a bigger ball(which is heavier) and the goal is raised to 8 feet (which is 2 feet higher than last year.) He was a little bit shocked I think that it was gonna be so hard for him to make a basket. But, he'll get it! I have no doubt!

We are really excited about the coach het got. Some volunteer coaches just seem to have a bit more of a plan than others. And this coach seems to have a definite agenda for the boys.

Down on the Farm

Quick random pic of Hudson playing his cousin, Mary's guitar. I just thought it was cute!I have been in the Buie family for 15 years and have heard so many stories about their relatives who live on a farm in Winchester, AR. Robbie and his dad hunt there. Well, today I went to Winchester to see it for myself. I'm not very outdoors-y....unless you are talking about laying out at the pool or the beach! But, I have to admit I had a good time!

The farmland we visited was just beautiful!

The kids thought throwing rocks into the river was SO much fun! Are we city people or what?! They didn't want to quit!

We had to drive across this part of the river to get to Papa's deer stand. The kids were really excited about it!

I found the concept of the duck blink really entertaining. There is a bleacher-type seat under all this straw. It is long...would probably seat 5-6 men. I just got this vision of them sitting on this bleacher seat should to shoulder...with serious faces...holding their guns staring at the sky for hours....they suddenly busting up through the top firing away the first time they spot a duck. Almost like a Jack-in-the-Box! Just cracked me up!

They farm cotton on this land....and this cotton picking tractor is about the same size as my house...not much exaggeration! It was mind boggling huge!

Little Rock Christmas

We drove up to Little Rock to have Christmas with Nonie and Poppa today! We got here at dinnertime and had a yummy pot roast dinner! Ummmm!

How fun to have even more presents waiting on us! It's fun to make Christmas last for several days!

We got lots of nice presents! But, Rob opened an Ipad and you can see the reaction from the kids!

The kids really wanted to ask Santa for one...but we managed to convince them that Santa doesn't usally bring grown up toys to kids.

Needless to say, we all have plans for how we plan to use the Ipad and are really excited!

Christmas Day

When the kids woke up, they went into Lawson's room and knocked on one of her walls that connects to our room. We tried this with them last year...gives us a chance to grab our cameras and meet them in the living room. I'm still suprised that they have the composure to actually work this plan!

Once Lawson tried out her new fuzzy blue chair she did not come out of the chair for the rest of the morning! Even took it out in the driveway when we took Hudson out to test drive his bike! You will see in the next post...the chair traveled with us to Texarkana and Little Rock too!

Santa did not dissapoint!

About noon, we packed up and drove to Mimi and Doo Dad's in Texarkana.

Everyone in my family was there except for Brady (missed you!) and it was such a special time!

Love that my mom has started such fun traditions with the kids. She has someone read the Christmas story (Rob was the designated reader this year) from the huge family bible. Meanwhile the kids reinact the story with Mimi's nativity figurines. She always bakes Jesus and birthday cake and we all sing Happy Birthday to Jesus.

Christmas Eve

Awww...Christmas Eve. Might just be my favorite day...so much excitement...everything still to come!

We spent the day at our house. We let the kids open their presents from us that morning...and then spent the rest of the day letting them play with them.

This year...my parents took the kids to the Dollar Store and let them pick out some presents for us. Really a fun suprise to open gifts 100% picked out by your children!

We totally scored on a couple of gifts! We got them a REAL mic stand...and it was a HUGE hit with both of them. You know your kids are really getting big when you start shopping for them outside of the toy section of stores!

Hudson got a new Wii football game that he just LOVED! And Lawson got a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader costume...I wasn't sure how much she would love it....but she is gonna wear it out. I don't blame her...I would too! Especially if I was as cute as she was!

Lawson gave Hudson a REAL football mouthguard which was something he was really wanting! (A funny side note: He had been using his neon green Halloween dracula teeth as his football mouthguard. And he wore them SO seriously while he played football! I will actually miss this a bit!)

Robbie played at a Christmas Eve service tonight that we all attended. Then we came home and got ready for bed and Santa. The kids got a little sad that our Elf on the Shelf, Max, will be leaving with Santa tonight. Hudson gave him some adhesive football numbers (specifically a 1 and a 3 because Max had written them a note telling him he was 13) And Lawson wanted to take a picture with him...and print it out...so he could take it with him back to the north pole. They were really sweet and a bit sad. They SO enjoyed Max this year...and you will see why if you have looked at my prvious post! Max got crazy this year!

All four of us were off from school and work this week before Christmas! It was one amazing week! We were able to slow down and just enjoy all the things of the season.The kids named our Elf on the Shelf, Max. And we had a lot of fun with Max this year! He just made himself at home in our house this year!

We went to the Christmas Eve Service at our church....Keystone.

Each morning I gave the kids a list of things to do that would be productive and busy!

Well, these 11 little Cowboys may have had some trouble concentrating sometimes...but they managed to have a pretty awesome season. They went 6-2! Ending with a 4 game winning streak! There coach worked really hard with them...and by end of the season they were rockin!

Hudson, you were SO incredibly cute yelling "Down, Set, Hut!" You were SO "quarterback" like...everyone could tell you had watched a lot of football! You were so focused and confident. You did a great job! Daddy, Lawson and I LOVED watching you play!

This was another fun holiday weekend. Mimi Sue and Doo Dad came for a visit and got to drop in on both of the kiddos holiday parties.

Weekend of Dec 9-11

We had a lot of holiday fun this weekend! Nonie and Poppa came to visit and treated us to the Christmas light show at Texas Motor Speedway. They have over a mile of christmas light displays and you even get to drive under the bleachers for most of the tour...which Hudson thought was really cool! The kids really enjoyed it...especially the lighted tunnel (pic above).

We taclkled our 3rd annual Gingerbread House project. We had a lot of success this year! They turned out really great! We found a kit for a Gingerbread train this year...so Lawson thought it would be fun for her to try it. It turned out REALLY cute

And Hudson had a football game! It was pretty cold today. So Hudson was dressed in layers...however, he wanted his pants and shirt sleeves rolled up! His team won.

Playing in the Rain

Footoball with the YMCA is played rain or shine. (There definately was no shine involved today!) It was 60 degrees (which isn't cold when you are dry...but IS when you are wet!) and a constant rain the entire time Huson played today. And he loved it! Which is good...because today he had a double header! 2 hours of football in the rain!

Lawson and I spent most the time huddling together under an umbrella trying to stay dry...which really didn't work out well for us long term. Eventually our lawn chairs got wet...which led to our pants getting wet. And it's hard to focus on the game when you have wet pants!

Hudson got to play on defense some today and got a chance to run the ball once (in addition to playing quarterback.)

However, he was most proud of the mud on his pants!

The Cowboys won BOTH games today! They played really well!

Today was fun for this little guy....and one we don't soon forget!

Lights

Rob put our Christmas light up today. It was sunny and cold. Perfect! Hudson paid Lawson 2 stuffed animals to play a game of baseball with him. (because we needed a pitcher, batter AND umpire. (And Rob of course was busy.) At one point, Lawson said "ok, that's it." To which Hudson replied, "Keep playing Lawson...I'll pay you another stuffed animal." Really?! What is goin on around our house!!

We breaked for hot chocolate!

The kids could not WAIT to open the Christmas boxes and reunite with their favorite ornaments and decorations!

Lawson loves to just sit and look at the ornaments. I think its really cute!

She has had this tree since she was 2. This year had to pretty much decorate it on her knees!

Hudson worked hard on his tree to seperate all his ornments by type and then group the different types of ornmaments together on the tree. So, red morotorcycles are in one place, black guitars and in one place, basketball ornaments in one place. etc. I have never seen a tree decorated like that! He said it makes his tree "stripey!"

Hudson and Lawson usally fight over who is going to put the star on top. However, Hudson discovered this year that our star has a bit of glitter on it...so now he doesn't want to touch it. He cant STAND glitter! I think it's his Kryptonite!

Thanksgiving - Texarkana

The Buies on Thanksgiving Day 2011

Lawson and Hudson are at the age where they are pretty good at posing well for pics. But, every now and then they come up with their own ideas for the pics. As payment for all the times they cooperate with me...I try to be flexible and go with some of their ideas. The pose in the photo above is a Hudson orginal.

The big meal! Steph and Eddie and their girls were with their family in Little Rock. :(

My mom works on this meal for hours!!! And although its ridiculous that it takes so long to prepare all these dishes...they really are delicious! We had turkey, dressing (its my favorite part...and I look forward to it all year!), green beans (that have brown sugar on them and taste like candy!), sweet potato casserole (which I can now eat about a spoonful of....makes me feel grown up!), mashed potatoes, fruit salad, and yeast rolls.

The kids enjoyed their dinner with a movie in the living room! It looks nice and orderly...but they ate for all of 5 mins and then apparently there was a wild stuffed animal alligator who was attacking them and they were running around screaming???...

What do you do after a big turkey dinner? Take 2 dogs and 6 kids on a walk! It seemed like a great idea...but we realized quickly that we were a slow moving and high maintenance group...so we just kinda walked back in forth and in circles in front of my mom's house. The kids had a blast! It's always the simple things that are a hit! (and probably what they remember most!)

Lawson and Hudson have come alooooooong way in overcoming their fear of dogs! They were coompletly good being outside with Sparky...even when he was running around off of his leash. This is a first! I remember Thanksgivings when they wouldn't even go outside if he was outside...even in his kennel!

And then we even managed to squeeze in a game of soccer before heading in to watch the Cowboys. Of course, my dad outfitted them with goals and everything!

Here was my attempt to keep all the little ones quiet so we could watch the Cowboys. It worked for a few minutes! :)

Thanksgiving - Little Rock

Oh, what fun we had spending a few days with Rob's family in Little Rock...despite torential rains! We were there for 3 days...and it almost rained the entire time we were there. And by entire...I do mean entire. We started off with some bowling. The kids really had a good time and they each won a game...so that worked out good for us all!

Lawson and Morgan spent an entire morning working on a fuse bead project.

Hudson took everyone on in some serious air hockey matches.

These three spent every waking moment together the entire time we were there.

They built a tent on the bunkbeds and were sitting in the complete dark watching a movie in their fort.

And being well rounded children, they logged some time exercising...rotating between 3 different stations.

We did manage to play outside a bit. Hudson had a blast riding his bike through the puddles!

And dog walking is one of my kids new fav past times. So, if you have a dog that needs walking...give them a call!

I don't really have words for this one!

Geting to climb trees was definately one of the highlights.

They wer up in this tree for at least an hour!

This was the first time Lawson and Hudson have ever climbed trees..pretty sure it won't be the last! They loved it!

Love these two sitting in the same chair while playing on the computer! They logged quite a few hours like this.

We had a delicous Thanksgiving meal...that I forgot to photo. The kids enjoyed eating it in the living room, on TV trays watching a movie which allowed the adults to enjoy a nice quiet dinner!

Before we knew it...it was time to pack up and head to Texarkana to hang out with the Gibbs side! What a great start to the week!

You can't see him too well on this video...Rob shot it on his phone when he was volunteering up at school one day. I, of course, have wanted the kids to match for Halloween every year.

They have been Dorothy and the Lion from Wizard of Oz, Howie Mandel and #3 Case Girl, Cowboy and Cowgirl, Minnie and Mickey Mouse....then last year we had Strawberry Shortcake and....Spiderman? When they were little I just picked their costumes for them...and so they matched. Last year they both requested their costumes...and even though they didn't coordinate....I made my peace and excepted it! I figured coordinating Halloween costume days were proably over!

But LOOK!

Voila! We are back to coordinating! And it was THEIR idea!

Lawson REALLY wanted to be Smurfette and she talked Hudson into being Papa Smurf....by promosing him that he can be Tony Romo and she will be a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader! Pretty funny to her the dialogue of them coming to these terms. It was back and forth for several days!

They covered some serious ground in their "smurf-mobile!" Check the video clip below. We rigged their jeep to play the "Smurf" theme song...a dance mix version of the Smurf theme song no less! And Rob put in on a loop. So, it played overe and over while we trick or treated! What we do for our kids! They were thrilled!

The kids both carved for a second...then turned the project over to Rob and I...and went to playing in the pumpkin goop!

Ta Da! The finished products! (notice the tiny grass blades on the bottom of the ghost one! Rob persavered!)

Hudson's First Football Game

Hudson is playing football for the first time. It's flag football with the YMCA. They have been practicing for the past 2 weeks and today is the big first game!
And guess who is the QB baby! Hudson Buie! The coach ran drills to determine everyone's strengths before assigning positions. Hudson was not the fastest or the strongest...but he was very focused, understood the game, and was a great listner. So, he was assigned to QB. Which Rob and I thought was really cool...but he wants to be a running back so he can score! Grass is always greener, right?! (And yes, his hair DOES look a bit funny in the front...because he decided to impress his friends at the craft table at our community group meeting and cut the front of his hair. This the day after I just took him to Sportsclips and paid for his nice haircut. Sigh.)

Gettin' flagged up!

They have a good coach, who is really committed into whipping them into a good little team! He uses pretty big football terms though with them that crack me up....like "your pursuit angle is all wrong!" Sometimes the kids look at him like "are you talking to me? I'm 4 ya know!"

Here we go! They did pretty well for a first game! And they won! Not much cuter than hearing Hudson call "Down, Set, Hut!"

Fall Festival

We decided last minute this afternoon to stop by a neighborhood church's fall festival. It was quite impressive...with free pony rides and all! We should have gone earlier...there were bounce houses and games that we never got to! Hudson was so excited...this was his first time to ride a horse! Here are a few pics from today!

Pumpkin Patch (kind of)

The last 2 years we have gone out to this really cool and elaborate pumpkin patch in Flower Mound. It has about 100 photo opps, bounce houses, a hayride, concessions, a little train, etc. It's really cute...and it's free. But, its a bit of a jaut to drive there...kinda takes up half a day...and our weekend time goes so fast....

I saw this little pumpkin patch with a bounce house at a nursery close to our house...I mentioned to Rob we could go there this year...instead of the Flower Mound pumpkin patch. And he said "if it is good enough for you, it's good enough for me!" So, that was our plan. Simplify.

Unfortunately, we have had really warm weather on most Saturdays in October. So, we dug out some orange and put it on with our shorts and flip flops and off we went.

We hadn't been there too long before the kids figured out that this wasn't the pumpkin patch they had in mind! But, it sure got "pumpkin patch" checked off my to do list AND we still had a lot of time left in our day! We might have to do the more traditional route next year....or not! We'll see!

The kids decided to drag pumpkins over in front of the bounce house to "decorate" it. I mean what else do you do when your parents take you to a "hay ride-less" pumpkin patch!

We did find a few keepers!

Hudson's First Football Practice

Hudson will be trying football for the first time....flag football. He had his first practice tonight. It was really cute! Tonights practice pretty much consisted of the kids learning to get in the correct football "stance" when lining up for a play. So...I'm wondering how these kids are going to shape up into a complete football team in the next 2 weeks!! We'll see!

Hello! Texas State Fair

The Buies took their FIRST trip to the TEXAS State Fair! It was the first time any of us had been to this fair! (We have taken the kids to the Arkansas State Fair the past few years.) Which is kind of crazy since we have lived in the metroplex since 2000!

The kids had the day off from school...so we decided it would be a good time to go. They had a good selection of not baby rides...but more like big kid rides.

This ride was their favorite! It was pretty cool!

This was both of their first times to actually drive bumper cars by themselves too!

I'm in COMPLETE awe of the Ferris Wheel! It is amazing! It is such an icon of the Texas State Fair...and it is impressive in every way! Including how they load it....the platform allows them to load like 6 cars at one time...so the line moves quickly!

And no trip to the fair would be complete without....a funnel cake!

Then there was BIG Tex! The kids were excited to see him. They had heard people talking about him! We waited around just staring at him for about 20 minutes...the kids really wanted to hear him talk.

Hudson can do a mean Big Tex impersonation....just ask him to do it for you!

Serving at Unity Park

"Serve the Lord with gladness!"...and with buckets of popcorn and candy!

We had the honor of joining with fellow Keystoners and serving those in need in Downtown Ft Worth ona Saturday morning in October. For 2 hours, these kiddos passed out muffins, candy, power bars, popcorn, corn dogs and filled dixie cups out of water jugs until their little thumbs were numb (from pushing that little button to dispense the drink)! From the minute they got there, they were in a "serving" zone. It is proof that it IS more blessed to give then to receive. Just look at their faces!

Hudson enjoyed a game of football and then he even got some football pointers from some of the gentlemen there!

God, I ask for continued provision for the people we met today. I pray that they know they are precious to you. Encourage them and keep them safe. Reveal yourself to them so that they may know they are not alone in their circumstances. Bless the small seeds we planted there today.

The absolute best way to start your birthday is to open a present!

Hudson opened a cool star wars toy from Mimi and DooDad before she left this morning. Then we went to church, ate a yummy lunch at BJ's with Nonie and Poppa, watched Lawson perform in Kids Celebrate at church, and then ended the day with a little family birthday party! Whew! It was busy birthday!

Oh yeah...and it even came with a Dark Vadar breathing sound device in the mask!

Hudson got his first electric guitar.

He got right to work playing us a song!

AND...bozo the clown to box with his new boxing gloves! Could this birthay BE any better?

Please NO, Hudson! That's why I bought you the clown!

Hudson's 5th Birthday

So, we won a FREE birthday party at ASI gymnastics. This was fabulous because their parties are really fun...but carry a nice price tag! Hudson has been taking gymnastics there, with Lawson, and so it was the perfect place for his party this year!

I sat down and showed Hud on the computer all the different Birthday Party themes that we could go with...and he caught a glimpse of some Mavericks napkins and locked in on having a Dallas Mavericks birhtday party theme! I wasn't sure we could pull that off...but we did! And he LOVED it!

He had a really good time making all the goodie bags for his friends...with a little assistance from La! They both love a project! So cute!

I still haven't made peace with my baby turning 5!

I found some fun little Basketball cup cake toppers that had the Mavs logo on them! Hudsonthought they were so cool!

LOVE, LOVE these little basket ball court table cloths!

And the thing I love the most...is other than bringing the cake and table ware....I just sit back and enjoy the party! They take care of the set up, entertainment and clean up!

The party hosts were being so silly while they were singing happy birthday to Hudson....I was worried he might wet himself! He was laughing SO hard!

We had fun celebrating with Rob today! He picked SaltGrass for dinner (I might have suggested it.) and it was scrumptious! Then home for some cookie cake! And bunch of balloons!

Nonie and Poppa came into town too...to help celebrate the birthday and to go to Grandparents Day at Lawson's school! They are such party people!

Labor Day Fun

This weekend was full of F-U-N!

We started with spending Saturday at Mimi and Doo Dads house. Ashley brought her crew over for a water play date! And it was quite an entertaining sight! I'm pretty sure this may be the last summer this crew will be able to ALL play in the little blue pool! The kids were just swimming and sliding on top of each other!

We took a break from the water for a picnic lunch courtesy of mimi. Yummy grilled cheese sandwiches.

Then a little belated birthday party for Mimi, Cannon, Griffin and Palmer.

And if that weren't enough fun, we took the older kiddos to see Smurfs! The kids really liked it.

On Sunday, we drove up to Lake DeGray to meet up with Rob's family!

It was cool and crazy windy...which made for some rough water...but we pretty much had the lake to ourselves! And we had a blast!

The kids had a picnic lunch on the top deck of the boat!

And we tubed!

And rode the sea doos!

And "fished"! (Just casting out and realing in a practice lewer.)

It was one of those days you just hate to see end!

Gymnastics

Lawson started taking gymnastics last fall...and Hudson decided he wanted to take this summer too (while it was too hot for outdoor sports).

They both really enjoy it...especially the trampoline jumping parts!

Lawson has been working on her cartwheel for about a year now...and it has been a slow process! Some days I think her coach may wonder if she will ever "get" it.

And just about 2 weeks ago...it has somewhat "clicked" for her!! Check the video below.

First Day of School

Here we are bright and early (like 6:00am early! Kids go to work with me at 6:30) ready for school! SO glad we got back in the "school" routine last week.
Hudson is going to the Keller Early Learning Center 3 days a week from 8-11am this year. He goes to the daycare I work at at 6:30...then I shuttle him to school at 8 and pick him up at 11. He stays at my daycare until I get off at 2:30. Then we go pick Lawson up and head home! I'm so glad he is able to go to pre-k this year for several reasons. One...it breaks up his day a bit. Two...this will be his first experience to be at school on his own. Being away from me ISN"T the problem...but sometimes he relies on me (more than I would like) to solve his problems at daycare. And I'm glad that it is only 3 hours a day...so I still have plenty of time to enjoy his little self! He is a hoot!
Lawson was supposed to bring a paper sack with 5 items that would help people get to know her. She picked a macaroni and cheese (toy)...favorite food, a sea shell (she loves the beach), a rainbow (toy)...she loves rainbows, a giraffe (toy)...her favorite animal, and a blue crayon....her favorite color.

So, it was a big debate in our house this morning over who was gonna take who to school. I wanted both kids to be walked in by a parent...but both kids wanted it to be me. (I should be flattered...but they only want me because that means they get to ride the SS Noah van....pretty sure.) I talked Lawson into letting Robbie take her...and me take Hudson. I really wanted to drop off my baby for the first time.

When I take kids to school on the SS Noah Van, I have to drop the kids off in the daycare drop off line. I told Hudson to stay on the van when the other kids got out...and I would park and walk in with him to his class. He said ok. But, when we actually stopped there...he said "Mom, I really just want to go in by myself...with my friends" I said, "I thought you wanted me to take you." He said, "actually not." Poor me! I was a big girl though and let him go with his friends.

However, I did park the van and go in to check on him.
Class had already started. They were all sitting on the circle time mat. I just snapped this shot through the window. Hudson is in the bottom left, next to his teacher.Evidentally Pre-K wore him out! He doesn't take naps anymore but he crashed out during naptime back at SS Noah. I snapped this pic and then remembered a pic I took over a year ago that is so super similar! He just looks SO much older now!

Lawson actually needs notebook paper this year! Wow!

This is the first year Hudson has needed school supplies. He was really excited!

We had Meet the Teacher night at both of their schools this week. This is Lawson and her second grade teacher, Mrs. Griffiths

Gulf Shores - Day 6

Last day...sigh...Well, we definately made it count!
First of all, we discovered a love for beach chairs. We will not "beach" any other way again. Nothing better than sitting kicked back with cool waves crashing in on your feet and the warm sun on your face!

Lawson's castle complete with a pink and blue flag. This was her design entirely. Daddy was just her lovely assistant.

Hudson designed and built one was well.

Hudson lined up the boogie boards...used the pins from horseshoes game, found a ball and created...beach bowling. He played it for about 2 hours!

About 3 o'clock, it got super cloudy and cooled off to 82 degrees. Can you say fabulous?

We stayed out on the beach until about 7....we just didn't want it to end.

This trip was pretty much perfect!

I can't decide which on of the of Lawson I like the best...so there are a bunch! Hudson was not as "in" to the photo shoot at this point....he was off playing. So, Hudson don't think we don't love you!

Gulf Shores - Day 4

The Buie Gang My Gang
We have had a great time. Lori and her girls are leaving tomorrow. The rest of us are staying two more days.

Lawson and I have logged MUCH time this week looking for shells! It's kinda addicting...for us both I think! Here are the girls checking out the shells we collected today!

These are the ones we found today. Yes, just today. We collected about this many every day. So, she has a TON (almost literally!) to bring home.

This was her best find. It's really big (compared to the others!) It is about 2-3 inches tall and perfect.

We stayed in a corner unit on the 14th floor and it was awesome. We had this extra window in the kitchen area. So, we can see the beach and the street life on the strip from this window. Hudson just loved sitting in the window seat and staring out the window. So cute!

Not really...wish I could take credit for it. It was so cute! We just found it walking down the beach tonight!
Believe it or not...we have not made a sand castle yet! We will have to tomorrow! But, I'm kinda intimidated afer seeing this mermaid!

Gulf Shores - Day 3

We got out to the beach in time this morning...

for a thunderstorm! Seriously, when we came out everyone else was headed in. We had our tent so we decided to ride it out. It was super relaxing just watching the storm blow through.
The kids had a blast playing and screaming in the rain!

Lawson wanted to fill her buckets with rain water! Ha!

How cute are they all coordinated and cozied up "chatting" on their Nintendo Ds's?!?

The waves were big this afternoon after the storm. We had big fun playing in them!

This was Hudson's first time. He was only 2 last time we went to Gulf Shores and he didn't want too. I could tell he was pretty nervous while we watched Lawson first. He didn't say he was scared but he was super quiet and nestled right up against me. I'm glad he got to watch her first...and see that she survived!

He enjoyed it! Although, I think he couldn't have been too comfortable....I could tell his life jacket was all bunchy. But, I didn't want to try to adjust him too much...for fear I would make him slip out of his harness or something! Which wouldn't be good.

It's SO quiet up there.

Gulf Shores - Day 2

We woke up to a couldy sky and cooler temps today.

The girls enjoyed playing in the sand!

While Hudson played just about every sport!

Golf!

He found an older boy to play baseball with!

And I....held down the beach chair!

After dinner, the kids all sat out on the balcony and "chatted" with each other on their DS's. You know because talking to each other...just wouldn't be cool!

Then for some more crab hunting....still didn't see any!

But, when we came back to the condo...we found ice cream! It was the perfect ending to our day!

Gulf Shores - Day 1

Yesterday, we left home at 6:30am, drove 11 hours, and got to Gulf Shores, AL about 7:30pm. This is the longest we have ever driven on a trip! We weren't sure how well it would go...it went great! La and Hud were amazing troopers! We only stopped twice!

We met Rob's parents, sister and her two girls there for a week in a beach condo.

As soon as we unloaded the car, we grabbed our buckets, nets and flashlights and ran out to the beach! We couldn't wait!

We hunted for crabs...but didn't find ANY! (Two years ago when we we were there, we found so many! We wondered if the oil spill had effected them or something.) We didn't really care though...just walking around in the water with flashlights was just as much fun!

We awoke this morning to this sight...sigh. So relaxing!

The kids played a game of Sorry in their PJ's after breakfast. This is La and Hud's new addiction. They LOVE Sorry! And they totally understand the game and all the strategies! I'm glad...it's so much more fun than Candyland!

Lawson and Morgan (cousin) were SO excited to sport their matching swimsuits!

It was funny watching people stare at them and wonder if they were twins. Everyone was doing a double take! I kinda had fun pretending I was the mom of twins!

The water was really clear and there were little fishies everywhere. The kids had fun catching them with nets.

Then time to play with their fishing poles. (just a little weight on the end..no hook) They just love to cast it in the water and reel it in.

And a little boogie boarding...minus the waves! The water was pretty calm today.More like just floating!

Summer Fun at the Water Park

Took the kiddos to the water park today! It's not summer without a trip to the waterpark. I remember how much I LOVED going to the water park when I was little. Still do actually! Count me out on an amusement park during summer...too hot!! But, I will ride water slides all day.

Next year, we will probably go to a bigger park...but we went to this one again this year. It just has a couple of simple water slides and diving boards. Its simple, and practical. It's been perfect for the kids the last few years. This was Hudson's first time jumping off the diving board. They don't alow you to use any type of flotation device when jumping off. You have to be able to swim to the side by yourself. Last year, we weren't sure he would be able to manage that. But, this summer...he has totally caught on to swimming and we knew he would be fine. I thought he might be a little bit hesitant and require some coaxing before jumping off...it looks high when you get up there! But, he just jumped right off...like it was nothing new!

They also conquered the "dark" water slide! Lawson loved it! Hudson did it...once...and only once! He wasn't a fan of that slide.

It was definitely a day of fun in the sun!

The Fourth

Oh....we love the fourth. We love the USA, our freedom, and those who have fought for it. Seriously, so grateful.

We started our day bright and early at the Arlington Fourth of July Parade. This is the 3rd year we have gone. It's a bit of a sacrifice to get there by 9am on a Sat...and it was hot...but it was worth it! Now it 's not the Macy's Thanksgiving parade...but it is perfectly quaint. And it reminds me why we have this holiday.

A local photographer asked if they could photo the kids. La and Hud may have appeared in a local publication. They were pretty cute...all red, white and blue...and totally "into" the parade!

You gotta love the statue of liberty riding a horse!

And it's just bonus if one of the "Wheelie-ing Elvi" gives you a high five!

And if you get your picture made with a clown....then it might just be the best 4th ever! I mean just look at Rob's face!

The drum line in all the marching bands is pretty much my favorite part!

Then we took in some fireworks at Southlake Town Square.

Gotta love Hudson's face in this one! He was impressed with the fireworks show. Lawson was still a bit unsure. She was so worried they were gonna be loud.

Lawson's Last Day of 1st Grade (her mom can't take it!)

Lawson wanted to take her teacher flowers on the last day of school. She picked out beautiful pink roses!
I got to take off work and go to the end of the year party! Unfortunately, there are rules by the state of Texas and you can't serve sugary snacks until after 2:30 or something like that...so they celebrated with carrot stix, wheat thins, grapes, cheese and apple juice!

As soon as the snacking was done, the room got crazy fast! There was dancing!

Memorial Day Weekend

Judy and Turner came into town to spend Memorial Day weekend with us! We had so much fun! We got to celebrate Nonie's birthday with her!
Have some fun at the pool!
And go for a visit to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glenrose, TX!
We got to see the animals pretty close up!
The highlight was feeding the giraffes out of our sunroof! Pretty cool!

The kids really enjoyed seeing the animals! But, they might have enjoyed being out of their carseats and being able to stand up in the moving car the most!

Lawson loved feeding the animals. And Hudson did when he could psych himself up to do it! He probably gets his love of animals from me....I was content to sit in the back of the van and safe gaurd my own filanges!

This trip was so fun...that I didn't want to mention that our AC went out about halfway through the day! Apparently, you can't run it on Max with the windows rolled down for hours on end in 95 degree heat! It was a toasty ride home...but it definately made the trip more memorable!

Hudson's Last T-Ball Game and Closing Ceremonies

Hud suited up and got ready to take off for his last T-Ball game! He has a new addition to his uniform...eye black! He specifically asked Robbie to take him to Academy Sports to buy eye black.
He got to play pitcher one last time...which was his favorite spot! He looks pretty good there!

He seemed to enjoy t-ball. Although I think basketball has been his favorite sport so far. Just so much more action! He was guilty of playing with the dirt from time to time to time when he was in the outfield. Just hard to stay in the game...when you don't get much action!

He was awesome in the duggout. Always busy either putting on or taking off his batting gloves and eating (which involved...chewing up....shells and all...then spitting out...)sunflower seeds!

Bless his heart...he tried to run fast...but that helmet, the cleats and sand made it hard for those little legs of his to power around!

Here he is getting his trophy...which has been what he has looked forward to all season long.

He has some great coaches who were really fun and committed to helping develop these little guys.

Reading Bingo Award

We celebrated today Lawson receiving a Gold Medal Bingo Reading award at school. This program was sponsored by the library har her school. She read 120 books during the school year to earn this award! It taught her how to search for books by theme or subject in the library. Pretty neat! Way to go La!
