May Randoms

We started out the month with Field Day at the kids school!  It was a beautiful cool crisp sunny morning field with games, snow cones, and a DJ! Good times!

We got to enjoy Lawson's 4th Grade recorder concert!  It if you have never heard over 100 recorders being played simultaneously...you haven't lived! Wow! It's louder than you think!

Lawson with her friends, Anna and Courtney with Mrs. Boch (music teacher)
One surprisingly cloudy and super cool Saturday the kids and some of their neighbor friends had a Rainbow loom bracelet stand.  They opened at 11:30 and I forced them to shut it down at 6:30!  They probably sold close to 100 bracelets...and made $55!  It was so cute!  At one point their inventory got low, and even the big boys were sitting loading their rainbow looms helping bring up the stock levels!

Lawson wrote a report on Gabby Douglas.  This is the little puppet of Gabby she made to use during her presentation.  So cute! Note the details: American Flag patch, Olympic Ring patch, London 2012 on the purple ribbon.  This puppet was definitely legit!
We had a great time watching many of the Mavs playoff games out on our backporch!  They made us sad...but did better than we expected! Next year!
We spent mother's day out at the Travs baseball game!  It was fun! Then came home for cookie cake!

I was given a couple of fun random assignments at work...both rather "day-before".  I was to set up a little welcome breakfast for our school districts new superintendent.  They wanted it to feel very "Bryant".  Thought it turned out cute!

Then I was asked to put together décor for one of the school districts Financial Administrator's retirement party.  So, I made a banner, some and some fun gift sack centerpieces.  Nothing like getting paid to look on pinterest and and cut out scrapbook paper!

Lawson won a field trip to Mid America Museum for meeting her reading goals this year! I went with her and we had fun!
 First swim of the season!

Hudson got a snorkel and did so well with it.  He swam like this all day! I was impressed!
Rob and I tagged along on Lawson's EOY field trip to old Little Rock homes in downtown Little Rock.  They learned about how people lived before running water and electricity.

This crazy kid! Looking too cool for school one morning.  Walked into the living room afternoon to see Captain America watching Captain America and acting out the movie play by play!

Rob tagged along with Hudson on his EOY field trip to the 4H center.  I heard something about boating and a rock climbing wall.  Rob sent me this pic.  I don't know what is going on...but looks like they are having fun! Looks like 1st graders gone wild to me!
Lawson made all A's for the 3rd 9 Weeks! Sweet!
We celebrated Memorial Day with a swim with our friends, The Currys!
Busy Month!

End of Baseball Season

So sad to be wrapping up another year of baseball! We have had so much fun watching Hudson and this team play.  We won the pre-season tournament and then went undefeated until the last week of the sesason.  What fun! Here are a few pics and videos from the last few games of the season.

We have been lucky enough to be on Coach Brad's team the last 2 years! What an awesome coach!  Always so calm and gently teaching them from their mistakes.

Way to go Cubs!

Science Fair

We tackled Science Fair this month!
I have painful memories of doing science fair once in Middle School...memories of the stress of not knowing what to do, waiting to late to start, staying up way late finishing it up, and crying before all was said and done . The kids both brought home papers with Science Fair details one afternoon saying that it was "optional".  Whew!  Then Lawson said well for me it actually isn't....my teacher is taking a grade.  She will give us time to work on it in class if we can't do it at home.  Great!  Then Hudson said and my teacher said I can do it if I want to and I want to because I want to learn as much as I can!  Wonderful!  Two science fair projects for the Buie Household it is!  Fabulous!

The kids both did a great job!  These projects didn't disappoint!  They were a LOT of work! When searching through ideas, they both gravitated towards project with worms....I think just because they wanted to go to Walmart and buy worms! Lawson did a project to determine what type of soil worms prefer to live in.  Hudson tested how worms in soil effect plant growth.  The testing lasted for about 10 days for each of these projects and then it took us an entire weekend to compile the data and put the boards together! Towards the end....Hudson was questioning why he had signed up for this assignment! They were finally done and the kids were proud to take them to Science Fair.  Hudson won 1st place in 1st grade at their school's science fair.  So, off to Regional Science Fair we went!

We drove to Hot Springs and set up his project.  Then the kids remain in the room with the projects and get interviewed by the judges.  Then you wait for the outcome! We did have fun walking around looking at all the projects.  Some were very interesting!

Waiting for the announcement!
He won 3rd place in Regional Science fair for 1st grade!  Way to go Hudson!
Lawson sacrificed and skipped school to support her brother!

Dance Recital

Another year of dance has come and gone for Lawson! She takes jazz, hip hop, tap and lyrical ballet.  Here are a few pics from Awards night.

2nd year of dance at BKs Dance!  Way to go, La!
The next night was recital! Lawson was in 4 dances, plus a mom, dad, &daughter dance , and the finale.  So, she makes about 5 costume changes during the show!  Whew! But, I think that is her favorite part!

Her hip hop costume was her favorite costume this year!

Mom/Daughter selfie back stage before our big Dad-Mom_Daughter dance!
She did great on all her dances!  She is second from the left in this shot!

Sitting in the audience a taking in a few dances in between her performances.

Thanks to Mimi, Nonie and Poppa for coming to watch the show!
(Clothing disclaimer:  Rob and I were in the show for an 80s dance number that was a dad, mom, daughter dance off. There wasn't really a good place for parents to change so we came dressed in our "costumes".   I got to channel my inner cheerleader mixed with some 80's MC Hammer.)
 Proud of this dancer!

Here are a few video clips.  Lawson is on the far left of the stage...usually on the 2nd row.

And one last one....for your viewing pleasure.  But first a little back story.  Every year this studio has a tradition of a dad daughter dance.  Last year there was a sweet dad/daughter dance part...then the dad's broke it down to JTs Suit and  Tie song.  Really funny!  So, of course, I teased Rob relentlessly about it! And he was pretty appalled too...but Lawson wanted them to be in the dance...so he did it!  Well, Lawson started telling me about 2 months ago that this year Ms. Brooke was going to include the MOMS this year.  I was like...surely Lawson didn't hear correctly.  But, she was right!  I hated telling Rob...because I knew how much I teasing I was about to get!  SO...we were all three in the dance!  I did my best to secure  my place on the back row at every practice...but dress rehearsal night I get relocated to front row! Perfect! Never did I dream I would be dancing on ANY stage at this point in my life!  But, here goes...and you can't touch this! :)

And the finale!  Good luck finding La in this one!  There are so many classes coming and going...I couldn't keep up with her when watching from the second row!
