Wrapping up La's Basketball Season

Like I said...summer basketball was Lawson's first sport to play.  We missed so many of the practices due to vacations and interviewing in Little Rock.
So, she really didn't know what was going on on the offensive side of the game.  The coaches were SO  sweet to really work with her to try to explain things...during the warm up time of the games.  But, it is hard to grasp plays being described to you.  She missed the benefit of being able to practice them like the others had done on the team.  She really did great and gave it 100%.  The coaches worked so hard during the last 2 games to set up her to score.  They would yell "shoot" and then just wince when she missed...because she was always SO close!

Right at the beginning of her last game (we moved before the season was fully over)...she caught a rebound and put it back up...and it went in!!!!  The coaches went crazy and so did her dad, brother, nonie and poppa and myself!   She threw her arms up and turned to us with a huge smile! Judy and I got all teary eyed! Because it was so cool...plus, we were in the middle of moving weekend and we were a bit overworked!

The thing I will remember MOST about this basketball season was Lawson when she wasn't in the game.  She would just sit and talk with the most animated gestures to whover she was sitting by! And she really didn't know these people at all!  And what was more amazing is that most of the time it was a boy she was talking to and they would not listen but talk with animated gestures back to her!  It was as if they were best friends sitting in a cafe somewhere...not on the bench waiting to go in to the basketball game.  Then when they sent her in the game she was all business! Hilarious!
I would ask her after the game what they were talking about and she would say "I don't really know."
I was so touched by the thoughtfulness of her coach.  After her last game, he was giving the after game speech.  He said "Is it anyone's last game today?"  Lawson shook her head yes.  He pulled out a trophy from behind his back and gave it to her.  SO kind.  She had been really worried that she wouldn't get her trophy since she was moving before the season was over.  Again, I teared up.  Just blessed by this volunteer coach who took the time to get the trophies early so she could get her trophy.  Means a lot to a 8 year old little girl moving to a new town.
God was smiling at Coach TJ.

Then Lawson got to count off the huddle!
This was a day to remember!  Big fun!
