Weekend Fun in T-Town

The kids were out of school the Thurs and Fri before Easter Weekend so we headed to Mimi and Doo Dads to spend Thurs and Friday nights with them!My mom had read in the paper about the Texarkana Little Doors that are all the talk in T-Town.  A mysterious person is painting and hanging them around downtown Texarkana.  There is a FB page that has riddles describing their locations to help you find them.  He/She is doing this to create some renewed interest in the downtown area.  So, we set out to downtown Texarkana Friday morning to find some little doors!  The kids brought their cameras and were taking pics of the ones we found.  Its kinda like a scavenger hunt!  It was a beautiful day and it was a lot of fun!

I took pics of some really pretty churches and buildings in downtown Texarkana.  I love downtowns! And, of course, we had to do the famous Texas/Arkansas photo opp.  Rob had to represent Arkansas alone...rest of us were born in Texas!

There are supposed to be about 40 little doors.  We found 22 of them.

We ate lunch at a fun Mexican restaurant and found a lot of fun photo opps along the way.

There is a cool park in downtown so we took a play break.  The kids loved riding this tire swing!

Then we spent about 30 minutes looking for the little door we knew was supposed to be inside the library.  The library staff had been sworn to secrecy and took their vow of silence super serious.  I asked several different employees where it was...including a teenage boy who I just knew would be a weak link...and none would tell us where it was.  We FINALLY fount it...it was in a crazy location behind the circulation desk.  But, it was a book that someone had cut doors and windows in.  Really tricky!

We came home and Doo Dad cooked his famous back yard burgers and Ashley and Landry brought their crew over!  The kids had a blast playing together!

  Mmmmmm...can you smell them?!

After dinner we had a little T-Town birthday party for Lawson.  My mom made her such a cute cake!

Thank you everyone for making this night special for Lawson!

It was such a fun evening!

The next morning the kids woke up to find eggs hidden all over Mimi's house...so some hunting had to be done.

While we were looking at the Texarkana Little Doors, we came up with the idea that it would be fun for Hudson and Lawson to each make a little door and go add it to the ones downtown.  My dad looked around his garage and found the neatest stuff to make the doors with.  Hudson decided to make a castle and Lawson made a cute pink car.  Both had doors that really opened and closed.  So, Doo Dad spent ALL day Saturday working on creating the doors!  Lawson and Hudson took turned chaperoning him.  Once he had it assembled, he passed it on to them for them to paint and finish up decorating.  We bought absolutely nothing to make these doors.  Just used scraps and paint that my parent already had!  Crazy!
We were also dying easter eggs at the same time!  It was a busy day!

We used sharpies on our eggs this year before we dyed them.  Fabulous!  The eggs turned out really cool!

  Lawson's Eggs

Here are the finished products! They are so cute!  We took them downtown to hang them up before we drove back to Little Rock.

Once we got downtown, we had to find good places to hang them.

The kids were really proud of them and are excited to go back and see them when we go hunt for more Texarkana Little Doors!  Thanks Mom and Dad for a fun weekend!
