April

This month has been filled with beautiful weather and a super busy schedule!
Baseball season has started and Hudson has moved up to the 9/10 year old leagure this year....which means full on baseball....bases can be stolen, kids are pitching, regular ball/strike count, etc. This makes it SO much more stressful!

Our team got off to a slow start this season.  We have 3 losses and 1 tie.  But, that tie felt like a win....we came back from 9-3 by scoring 6 runs in the last inning of the game to tie it!

Hudson pitched for the first time.  He looks good on the pitchers mound doesn't he?!  It was a rough intro to pitching.  He walked several and his team didn't field well.  So, the inning went on and on and on!  Was so relieved when they got the 3rd out...he was too! Bless his heart!

They finally won their 5th game of the season.  Hudson has gotten walked a couple of times and has struck out a couple of times but finally got his first hit!  Here is is:
Lawson's cheer team got to perform before the game at a Naturals game.

Hudson lost his TV/electronics priviledge for a few days as a punishment.  One of those days when I came home, I found him doing this.  Digging.  He dug from 4:30 until I made him come to shower at 7:30.  Lawson even voluntarily joined him until I made her come in to do homework!  He said he was just looking for cool rocks!  Talk about cheap entertainment!
Here are Lawson's team cheer pics. (3 girls were not at pictures)

Lawson had one last cheer performance at Razorfest...which is the pregame festivity before the Spring Red/White Football game.   We had a blast at this event.  The weather was F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!
There were lots of booths with freebies and carnival games...which is always a huge hit with my crew!
As soon as Lawson's group got done performing, the Razorback cheerleaders and Coach Bielema took the stage for a little Q & A about the upcoming season.  So, it was like Infiti was the opening act for Coach Bielema!  Not bad!
Tusk parked right beside us as we were waiting for Lawson's team to perform.  The kids like seeing him up close.  I, however, did not...he was frothing at the mouth!  Yuck!
We sat on the front row...which was Hudson's call.  This game is FREE so we took full advantage of sitting front row...because we could never afford those tix!
The game was a little slow...but we were throughly entertained being up close to all 3 mascots, cheerleaders, and the band! One field gold was deflected off the upright and landed right beside Hudson.  He picked it up and threw it back to the ref who commented "Nice throw kid!"  Make Hud's day!
We ended the month with THIS girl's 6th Grade Spring Band Concert! And SHE rocked!

The kids went from buzzing in their mouth pieces, learning how to put their instruments together and playing short simple melodies and scales at the November concert....to full on recongizable songs with harmonies and difficult rhytms.  The band and their director were beaming after the concert...and I could see why!  So, much learning has transpired!  Such an accomplishment!

US National Cheer Comp

Lawson's team won a full paid bid to the US Finals competition at their last competition.  So, we headed back to Kansas City to compete once again!
2 girls from her team had prior obligations and so they had to change their stunts and formations a little to fill in gaps.  I was worried because those last minute changes can really throw you off when you had your routine so well memorized.
But, they delivered another very solid performance!  Every competition I feel that they have more confidence in really "selling" their routine...those smiles, facial expressions and crispness just go to the next level.  I love watching them perform!
They tied for 4th out of 9 teams.  9 very top notch teams.  You had to win a bid to compete in this competition.  The girls were dissapointed that they didn't win first but were still able to leave knowing they competed well.

Lawson and Coach Courtney
We competed around 6:15 and we found out earlier in the week that Empire (Lawson's previous cheer gym in Bryant) would be competing around 9:30....so we had to stick around and support them!  Once of Lawson's best friends, Anna, is on that team!  The girls were so excited to see each other.  Pretty fun to both be at the same competition!

Lawson, Coach Brook and Anna (Is Coach Brook the shortest?!  Think so! Eeek!) Empire rocked and won champion jackets in their category!  It was a fun night!

Hudson's School Play

Hudson was given the role of the Baliff in Willowbrook Elementary's production of Goldilocks on Trial.  Drama Club is an optional after school activitiy that met once a week for about three months. The teacher had the kids read lines and then turn in their top preference for the roles they wanted to play.  Hudson thought he would like a minor role...so their would not be much for him to learn.  His teacher approached us about him taking one of the more major roles because she thought he would do a great job.  After consideration, he agreed and got busy learning his lines.  I'm glad she challenged him.  She was right....he was great!
The backstage crew created the stage set....with paint and a roll of paper.  It was very impressive. Really looked like they were in a courtroom and in the three bears home!
The teachers did a great job assigning the roles.  The kids were just perfect for their parts.  They did a great job of staging the play introducing the kids to theatre.  The play was 45 minutes long and the kids had dozens of lines.  They pulled this off with about 15 hours of practice total.  Alot to coordinate...pretty amazing!  I loved the play...it was very enjoyable.  Great job everone!

The entire cast!

Hudson, we are so proud of how hard you worked to learn your lines and accepting such a challenging role!  You played your role great!

Here are a few clips!

COA Competition

Lawson, Judy and I drove up to Kansas City for another cheer compeition.  Judy and I were in the front of the Suburban and Lawson rode in the backseat reclined with pillow and blanket watching a movie.  Tough Life! It was a quick trip but we had a great time.  Lots of card games and laughs!

Team Slate performed this routine the cleanest and with the most energy!  It was SO good.  It was even better than last time! Sharp, clean and lots of fun faces!

They came in second place!  It was close between them and the team that took first place.  The other team had a little more difficulty in their stunts.  Our girls should be proud be they killed their routine!

And they won a bid to US Finals on Arpil 16 in Kansas City due to them having the second highest score amoung all the prep teams that competed that day!  Great job, Lawson!

Hudson had his first baseball game of the season on Saturday so Rob, Turner and Hudson stayed in Bentonville.  The spent their freetime Friday evening out at a Razorback Baseball game.  The hogs came back from behind to win.  It was a great game.

Hudson was the lead off batter at his game.  And he got a walk.  He stole two bases and then scored the winning run! He played short stop.  He had a great first game but unfortunately his team lost 10-2.  I hated that I missed it!  Hoping it goes better next game!
