The Kiddos First Purchase

So we headed out this morning to the City of Keller's Wild West Fest. We weren't sure exactly what it was, but Lawson came home from school with a flyer advertising it and it looked fun. It had bounce houses, a petting farm, a stick horse rodeo, food and merchandise vendors and live entertainment.
Luckily we went...
because otherwise we would have never discovered
one of the "Best of Big D" talents (according to D Magazine).....
David Chicken!
How we have lived in the metroplex with 2 music-loving kids and not heard of David Chicken?!
I do not know! But today we saw his show, got an autographed poster, and BOUGHT his DVD. Actually the kids bought his DVD. They each chipped in $6 from their allowance money they have been earning. The are joint owners! So cute!
I actually felt bad taking the money out of their piggy banks....kind of wiped them out. But I knew I had too...so they can learn about earning and spending money.
They have been enjoying the new DVD all weekend.
Robbie and I got a pretty big kick out of David Chicken
and especially from his sidekick....MOMMA Chicken (I'm thinking Grandma Chicken!).
She raps, moo's, dances...you name it!
We have been going around all weekend rapping...
"What's my name? Mama Chicken, Mama Chicken!"
She definitely brings some added excitement to the show!
Here are some pics of the kids enjoying the free show!

Funny Things

Hudson got a Lego table that reverses to a
dry erase table for his birthday.
(I was not sure I was going to tell them about the dry erase side....sounded pretty messy for a 5 and 3 year old. But Lawson knew what it was and explained it to Hudson. So they have both been requesting dry erase markers all weekend.)
Hudson and I were headed to Albertson's when the following conversation took place.

Hud: Where are we going now?
Me: Albertson's
Hud: Can we get the markers for my table now?
Me: Yeah, we can buy those at Albertson's.
Hud: And I need a race car.
Me: No, we aren't going to get a race car today. Just markers.
Hud: But I need a race car....and markers.
Me: You have plenty of race cars at home, but we can get the markers.
Hud: I don't have a race car at home.
Me: Sure you do. You have a lot of little race cars at home. Remember?
Hud: If I don't get a race car with my markers, I won't be able to clean off the table.
Me:........(quiet while I am trying to figure out the logic to his statement)........(then a light bulb goes off above my head)........oh, you mean an ERASER?!
Hud: Yeah, I need an eraser.
Me: Yes, we can get an eraser to go with your markers.

Made me laugh out loud!

The lady who checked us out had a feather duster in her back pocket. Hudson leaned over to me with a completely serious face and said, "She has a funny tail."
Again, made me laugh out loud!

Hudson's 3rd Birthday Party

Hudson had a fun sports themed 3rd Birthday Party today!
He had a blast!

We had the party in a kids room at our old church. We turned the kids loose with inflatable helmets, footballs, basketballs, soccer balls, baseballs, and bats. We set up basketball goals, baseball bases, and a soccer goal. Then we had a sports tattoo station and a color your own sports backpack station. We used the backpacks later in the party to put the kids pinata candy in. We had cake, popcorn and Capri Suns!
What more could you want???!!!
The Cake
Hudson and his friends enjoying the cake!
The Buie Crew
Swing Hudson!
Swing Lawson!
We got our money's worth out of the pinata.
We wanted all the kids to have a turn hitting the pinata...so we started with a plastic bat. No one broke it open, so for round 2 we broke out the wooden pinata stick. All the kids took several wacks with the pinata stick, and it still escaped unscathed! Luckily, one of Hudson's friend's older brother was at the party. We let him give it a try and he sent the candy flying!
Hudson spent all of his time playing baseball. It is his current favorite sport. I can't tell you how many times I overheard him telling Aiden that you don't wear football helmets when you bat! (Aiden was just pretending it was a batting helmet.) Hudson was troubled over this! We finally talked him into just going along with it!

Hudson Turns 3!

Here is Hudson enjoying a birthday cheeseburger!

Seriously? My baby boy is 3?! 2 is still a baby age....but 3 definitely is not! So this one has been kinda hard on me! Even though it was bittersweet for his mom, we still managed to have a lot of fun today!
We picked up Lawson after school and headed out to Bear Creek Park for a family game of baseball on a kiddie sized baseball practice field they have there. Hudson is smitten with baseball right now....so he just ate this up!
Then we let him pick where we would go for dinner. So, naturally, we ended up at McDonald's. Then we went to Sports Clips to get his hair cut. He requested to have it cut like baseball player hair, so we got it cut really short. It's very cute!
Then we went home and opened presents! He got a Lightning McQueen watch, a headband (which he had been asking for), a baseball night light, child-sized baseball batting gloves, a Handy Manny Truck/Tool Bench, clothes, a basketball goal bath tub toy, and a Lego/car table with Legos, animal Legos and people Legos. He scored!

Here are some pics of his birthdays past and some from the fun we had today:

3rd Birthday
2nd Birthday
1st Birthday
Original Birthday

Nonie and Poppa sent Hudson this adorable Cookie Bouquet today, too! He was so excited when the doorbell rang and this arrived for him! He immediately wanted to eat the "ball and glove" cookie!

Happy Birthday Hudson!
We love you!

Lawson is LOVING kindergarten!

This is Lawson and Mimi Sue at Grandparents Day at Lawson's school last Friday.
Mimi treated her and brought her McDonald's! (Funny thing....my mom has been wearing her hair in its natural curly state all summer.....but she knows Lawson likes is straight. So, she made sure to blow it and flat iron it so it would look just the way Lawson likes it!
(She is an overachiever! Ha!)

Lawson comes home so happy and proud of her work everyday! It's really cute! I'm so glad that she is enjoying it.....makes me feel ok about being away from her 7 hours out of every weekday!

Here is an email I got from her teacher last week....
we were REALLY proud!

Rob went to eat with her on his birthday last week.
Hudson and I went and ate with her last Monday.
Lawson's friend, Hawi, took this photo (supposedly of all THREE of us!)

Walking in the Rain

So, it has been raining for the past 4 days...non stop!
We have gotten 14 inches of rain!

The kids got their umbrellas out today and asked to go for a walk. Why is my knee-jerk reaction to say no?! There wasn't a weather danger, and we had some time before dinner. There was no reason to NOT walk in the rain. So we took off.....and it was a lot of fun! We walked around our neighborhood for about 30 minutes in the rain.
People looked at us like we were a bit crazy.

But I made a mental note to walk in the rain more....
it was refreshing!

Can you see my new hearing aid?!

Lawson was GIVEN state of the art hearing aids today thanks to the Starkey Hearing Foundation and Jones Audiology and Hearing Aid Centers! These hearing aids are tiny, barely noticeable, programmed to her individual hearing needs (they only boost the lower frequencies she misses), and worth $5500.

She was diagnosed with mild to moderate hearing loss a little over a year ago. No one (Rob and I, other family, preschool teachers, etc) suspected it......and we were really surprised when she didn't pass her 4 yr old hearing screening. We were referred to several audiologists who did lot of testing (from blood work to an MRI that required she be sedated) and they could not explain the reason for her hearing loss.

But everyone we talk to agrees that hearing aids would benefit her. It was a tough decision for us because she seems to function fine without them. But the audiologists say that she is missing things, and this would make learning in a classroom environment more difficult for her. Our audiologist told us about a program we would qualify for called "So the World May Hear". It was being put on by the Starkey Hearing Foundation and Jones Audiology and Hearing Aid Centers and would provide her with hearing aids for free. We were very thankful to find a way to let her try them and see if they will benefit her. So today was the day we went to get them.
Here are some pics from the day...
"There she is, Miss America!"
THIS is one of my best moments EVER! I got to wear Heather Whitestone's 1995 Crown.
I HAD to ask if her if I could wear her crown!!!
It was a now-or-never moment!
Keeping her eye on the prize!
How many 5 year olds get to hold a Miss America crown???!!!
Lawson conquered a fear today too....her fear of costumed people who don't show their faces!
I was SO happy Rowdy was there.... He is the cutest, happiest mascot ever!
And here we are the TCU mascot...who frankly kinda scared me!
And now with the freaky clown!
This was a photo of all the special guests that were there. Notice Lou Ferrigno (original Incredible Hulk) on the back row in the black shirt and Heather Whitestone (Miss America 1995) on the front row. Both of them suffer from hearing loss and spent a lot of time rubbing shoulders with the kids today.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game!

Hudson got to start celebrating his 3rd birthday party a little early while we were visiting family in Little Rock this weekend! His grandparents planned a fabulous evening out at an Arkansas Travelers minor league baseball game last night.

They had "Happy Birthday Hudson" put on the
scoreboard during the 7th inning!
It was so much fun! Hudson got a lot of the players to autograph his ball! He thought this was way cool!
Such a cute and yummy cake!

Aunt Steph, Uncle Eddie and little Brooklyn were in town for the Razorback game this weekend. They came by to visit for a bit! Lawson gave her all the scoop on Kindergarten.

Snack time in the suite! We got to enjoy the evening inside or outside of our private suite. This was perfect for the kiddos. They could move around and stretch their legs a bit!
Waiting to catch a foul ball! This smile tells you how Hudson felt about the evening!

Some Videos from last night.....

Here are a couple of videos from last night's game.....you can copy and paste them into your browser.

Break in the action!

Sorry there have been no new updates this week...my computer has been under the weather. Robbie is hoping to have me up and running today. So, more posts coming! Stay tuned.
