We planned a family ski trip to Crested Butte, Co for Spring Break this year.
Let's just say...Nothing like a good Plan B!
This little guy fell and hit is head on the playground equipment at school and had a mild concussion. Doctor said no snow skiing for him! Didn't want to risk bumping a head again that has not fully recovered. We were all very disappointed...but quickly realized if our biggest problem is that we have to change our Spring Break plans....we are pretty fortunate.
My sister, Steph, texted me about an hour after we had gotten the new from the Doctor and had laid out a week for us in Dallas with her family. I'm so thankful for her thoughtfulness! She got my wheels turning a new direction. I was still in the big middle of making a gillion phone calls cancelling all our reservations and requesting money back and had even begun to think of a plan B. And this was a great one! We love Dallas and spending time with the Nalley Clan!
We decided to head to Dallas on Tues....which left Monday open. I had planned to just get caught up on house stuff and pack. That morning Hudson was watching the local news program and they were doing a segment on the zoo which gave him a great idea. He came in and asked me if we could go to the zoo. It was a beautiful Spring Day and I had been thinking about what we could do to get out and enjoy it. So, I was like "sure!" So, the kids and I headed out to the Little Rock Zoo and we had the best time. (Rob was working.)
I think the animals were excited about the Spring Weather....they were all up and moving. ...which never happens when I am at the zoo. It was a lot of fun!
We watched them feed the penguins, apes and gorillas.
(Hudson got this old shirt of Rob's from his parents house. It was Rob's old All Star baseball Jersey. He has worn it the past 2 days! So sweet!)
We watched this Gorilla hop up on this ball and stare out at the Zoo parking lot. The kids thought it was hilarious!
We had a picnic lunch on a park bench. It was so relaxing and the kids were really into reading all the signs and learning about the animals. We stayed about 5 hours and were up walking the entire time. We left happy and exhausted and went to meet Rob for dinner.
We quickly packed that night and left the next morning for Dallas.
We made a lunch stop on the way at Mimi's house. She served up a yummy lunch saving us from McDonalds! Thank you, Mom! And Lawson had some birthday goodies waiting for her there!
We made it to Steph's enjoyed some pizza with her crew and then headed into Downtown Dallas to take in a Mavs game! We love us some Mavs! Aunt Steph hooked Lawson up with this super cute Mavs shirt from Justice! The lettering is "blingy"...the pic doesn't do it "justice"! Ha!
Oh, how I LOVE this tall German! I know he is nearing retirement....and I don't know if I will be able to handle that. (Not kidding!)
Best part of the game! Player Intros!
Mark Cuban is just about an entertaining as the game. Kid you not...he stands the entire game! (How would you like to pay for those high dollar courtside seats behind him and have that view the entire game!) He has a reaction and something to say after every play! So into it! Love him!
Lawson was hoping we would run into Cuban while we were there so she could ask him how he does Sharktank and makes all the games!
Look who was there....Romo and his bestie, Whitten! Tony talked to the guys on the other side of Whitten the entire game. Everytime I looked at them...this was the scene. Whitten was actually watching the game too...or trying to. I think him and Romo might should have traded seats!
Thinking Tony might not love the Mavs! Ha!
We played the Spurs and were behind most of the first half....but brought in the second half and beat those dudes! It's almost worth getting behind for the thrill of the comeback! Great game!

We decided to exit the arena through Victory Park. Thought the kids would enjoy all the bright lights. SO glad we did!
It was 10 O'Clock....ABC news broadcast time from their Victory Park Studio! The kids loved watching the broadcast and seeing behind the scences! I did too!
They loved being on TV even more!
Then we went to lunch at the Harbor and had chips and salsa out on the patio with the perfect spring temp!
Gorgeous Day!
Next up the birthday girl wanted to get a pedicure! We all suffered and joined her!
Gotta love my all boy sitting in that heart throne! He loves him a good mani/pedi! Takes after his Uncle Landry!
Then home to chill a little while before the next round of birthday celebration.
Hudson loves to slam dunk on Uncle Eddie's goal!
#airHudsonThat night the Nalley Crew and us headed to Shaningan's for some bowling, dinner and arcade fun to finish off Lawson's Birthday!
The pics doesn't really do justice...but these were rainbow flame candles. The flames matched the color of the candle. Pretty cool! My rainbow girl was thrilled!
She won 1400 tickets in the arcade that night! Those games must have known it was her birthday!
Happy 11th Lawson!
The next morning we came back to the American Airlines Center to see Disney Frozen on Ice! The show started out with a number featuring all the Disney Classic Favs! Snow White and the Prince
Ariel and Prince Eric
Nemo
Cinderella and Prince Charming
Woody and Buzz Light Year
Mickey and Minne...and others I didn't get pics of. The way they lighted the ice was so cool throughout the show!
Then it was showtime wtih Anna and Elsa!
It was really spectacular how they were able to re-create the entire movie story line with props and scenery changes all on ice! Well done, Disney!
We loved it! In fact, the kids like it better than the actual movie. When I asked them why they said "because they did everything on ice!" And I see what they mean. Thins are more dramatic and enchanting when you are skating and spinning while you sing!
Next stop was an afternoon at the Galleria with Lawson's first trip to the American Girl Doll store. That store is quite the experience! (Just ask Hudson! LOL!)
She decided to buy herself an American Girl Doll with her own money. Big deal. The are not cheap! And she really never spends her money.
We had a dessert break at the restaurant upstairs! Pretty fun! (Note the seast on the table for the doll.)
She picked the doll that most resembles her. It's a really cute doll!
Lawson selected a dessert where she got to ice a cupcake for herself and a tiny one for her doll.
Could the store be any cuter or girlier?! Fun time for sure!
Hudson was a good sport in American Girl Doll. He wanted to go to the hat store Lidz. So, that was our next stop. He bought himself a really cool Dallas Mavs hat, Lid rather!
After the Galleria we headed back to Steph's and got to go see sweet Brooklyn her 1st Grade performace! It was so cute! And she did great!
At the end of the week, I asked the kids what their favorite thing was. Hudson said "Brooklyn's performance." Pretty sweet! And it really was good!
Do they not look just like mini teenagers? Steph, please take this again in 10 years...because I think they will look just the same just taller!
The next morning we headed back to downtown Dallas (we beat a trail there this week!) to have lunch at Reunion Tower. The kids always point out the "ball" everytime we drive through Dallas and have since they were tiny! Going to the top of Reunion Tower has been on their bucket list our last few Dallas trips. We were able to accommodate it on this trip!
Dallas Cowboys Stadium - 18 miles away the tour guide said! You can see forever up there!
Texas State Ferris Wheel
American Airlines Center
The view straight down.
Down town Dallas
The 2nd window down from the top on the far right is where the alleged shooter was when he shot President Kennedy. The kids watched a video about this and it got them really interested in that historical event. We spent the rest of our afternoon in Dealey Plaza reading signs and looking at landmark locations there.

Some pics from Dealey Plaza
A shot from the sidewalk from below the window from which the shots were fired.
We went to Chandler's art show at her preschool that night and then came home and just hung out. The girls worked on easter crafts.
And the boys watched the mavs and played on their electronics!
We got up the next morning and drove back to Arkansas. We stopped and Mimi's Cafe again and in Texarkana for a nice break, a delicious lunch and told her about all the fun we had in big D!
A big thank you to the Nalley Family for their incredible hospitality!
