Can you see my new hearing aid?!

Lawson was GIVEN state of the art hearing aids today thanks to the Starkey Hearing Foundation and Jones Audiology and Hearing Aid Centers! These hearing aids are tiny, barely noticeable, programmed to her individual hearing needs (they only boost the lower frequencies she misses), and worth $5500.

She was diagnosed with mild to moderate hearing loss a little over a year ago. No one (Rob and I, other family, preschool teachers, etc) suspected it......and we were really surprised when she didn't pass her 4 yr old hearing screening. We were referred to several audiologists who did lot of testing (from blood work to an MRI that required she be sedated) and they could not explain the reason for her hearing loss.

But everyone we talk to agrees that hearing aids would benefit her. It was a tough decision for us because she seems to function fine without them. But the audiologists say that she is missing things, and this would make learning in a classroom environment more difficult for her. Our audiologist told us about a program we would qualify for called "So the World May Hear". It was being put on by the Starkey Hearing Foundation and Jones Audiology and Hearing Aid Centers and would provide her with hearing aids for free. We were very thankful to find a way to let her try them and see if they will benefit her. So today was the day we went to get them.
Here are some pics from the day...
"There she is, Miss America!"
THIS is one of my best moments EVER! I got to wear Heather Whitestone's 1995 Crown.
I HAD to ask if her if I could wear her crown!!!
It was a now-or-never moment!
Keeping her eye on the prize!
How many 5 year olds get to hold a Miss America crown???!!!
Lawson conquered a fear today too....her fear of costumed people who don't show their faces!
I was SO happy Rowdy was there.... He is the cutest, happiest mascot ever!
And here we are the TCU mascot...who frankly kinda scared me!
And now with the freaky clown!
This was a photo of all the special guests that were there. Notice Lou Ferrigno (original Incredible Hulk) on the back row in the black shirt and Heather Whitestone (Miss America 1995) on the front row. Both of them suffer from hearing loss and spent a lot of time rubbing shoulders with the kids today.

  1. Hi,how’s the hearing condition of your little Lawson? I’m pretty sure that after two years of wearing a hearing aid,her sense of hearing has gradually improved.I’m also certain that using a hearing aid helped her excel with her class performance.
